Why Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Is Still Pure Magic for Families (and the Biggest Kids at Heart)

There’s something special about returning to a place that already holds your memories… and realizing it still delivers just as much magic years later.

I first stayed in a Cars Family Suite at Disney’s Disney's Art of Animation Resort back in May 2015, not long after the resort opened. Fast forward ten years to August 2025, I found myself pulling back into Radiator Springs the night before boarding the Disney Wish… and it felt like stepping right back into the story.

But this time, I saw it through a different lens.

Not just as a guest… but as a travel advisor, a mom, and someone who knows exactly what makes a resort work for families.

🚗 The Cars Family Suites: Designed for Real Families (Not Just Sleeping Arrangements)

Let’s talk about what makes Art of Animation stand out immediately: space that actually makes sense.

The Cars Family Suites are built with families in mind in a way that most standard hotel rooms simply aren’t:

  • Sleeps up to 6 comfortably

  • Separate bedroom for parents (yes, an actual door 🙌)

  • Two full bathrooms (a game-changer, especially with kids)

  • Convertible dining table + sleeper sofa for flexible sleeping

  • Mini kitchenette for quick breakfasts, snacks, and late-night bites

This isn’t just a place to crash after the parks. It’s a place where everyone has room to breathe.

For larger families or those who just don’t want to feel crammed into a single room, this layout is one of the best values on Disney property.

🌵 Radiator Springs… But Make It Real Life

The Cars section doesn’t just reference the movie. It recreates it.

And I mean that quite literally.

From the moment you drive in, you’re surrounded by:

  • Cozy Cone Motel buildings (perfect for lounging in beside the pool!)

  • Life-sized Lightning McQueen and Mater

  • Route 66-inspired details around every corner

  • Neon lighting at night that transforms the entire area

At night, the Cars section glows. It’s quiet, immersive, and honestly… kind of emotional in the best way. Like the movie came to life and decided to let you stay awhile.

Even after multiple visits, it still hits that same nostalgic note. That’s not easy to pull off.

🎨 Over-the-Top Theming Across the Entire Resort

Even if you’re not staying in Cars, Art of Animation is a full-on celebration of Disney storytelling.

Each section drops you into a different world:

  • Finding Nemo (home to the Big Blue Pool, the largest on property)

  • The Little Mermaid

  • The Lion King

  • Cars

We’re talking giant character sculptures, vibrant colors, and scenes that feel pulled straight from the screen.

This is not a “subtle Disney touch” resort.

This is full immersion… and for kids (and adults who still feel like kids), that’s exactly the point.

🚡 Skyliner Access = A Quiet Superpower

One of the biggest upgrades since my first stay in 2015?

The Disney Skyliner.

By 2023, I had already experienced the convenience of Skyliner access when touring the resort, and by 2025, it had become one of the biggest perks of staying here.

From Art of Animation, you get:

  • Direct access to EPCOT

  • Direct access to Hollywood Studios

  • A smooth, scenic ride that skips bus lines

For families juggling strollers, park bags, and tired little legs… this is more than transportation. It’s sanity-saving.

🌊 Perfect for a Pre-Cruise Stay

Staying here the night before my Disney Wish sailing just made sense.

It gave us:

  • A fun, high-energy Disney start to the trip

  • Space to organize luggage before embarkation day

  • That “we’re officially on vacation” feeling before even stepping on the ship

It bridges land and sea vacations beautifully.

💛 Who This Resort Is Perfect For

Art of Animation shines brightest for:

  • Larger families who need space without booking multiple rooms

  • First-time Disney visitors who want to be fully immersed

  • Repeat visitors chasing nostalgia and storytelling

  • Anyone who believes vacation should feel a little larger than life

✨ Final Thoughts: It’s Not Just for Kids

Ten years later, the magic still holds.

Not because everything stayed the same… but because it evolved in all the right ways while keeping its heart intact.

Art of Animation isn’t about luxury.

It’s about joy, color, storytelling, and space to experience it together.

And if you ask me?

That’s exactly what a Disney vacation should be.
